The Old Timers Soccer Association of Maryland honored national champs FC Christos this last Oct 23rd at the UMBC men’s soccer game by presenting them with a championship banner.
Ever since 1997 when the Haislip Brothers formed the club, the name of Christos has been synonymous with excellence in amateur soccer in the State of Maryland. Besides numerous league and tournament titles, the Christos program has won six national titles. The Over-30 teams won national titles in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The regular team won the Werner Fricker Open Cup and National Amateur Cup in 2016.
Despite no national titles, the regular team were the darlings of amateur soccer of 2017 when they made it to the round of professionals in the Lamar Hunt Open Cup, giving DC United all it could handle in a game played at the Soccer Plex in Germantown Md last June before succumbing to them by a score of 4 to 1. This past August in Florida, the Christos regular team reclaimed their national Werner Fricker Cup title by defeating Sarasota Premier 5 to 1.
