In Memorium, The Passing of Greg Watson

Maryland Soccer Legends extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of Greg Watson who passed away the the morning of  March 21st. Greg was diagnosed with Covid-19 a little over a week ago and lost his battle with it.

Greg has been the SRA for the State for 30+ years. He was a great leader, Mentor and more important a Great Friend to many. His loss will be felt throughout the Maryland Soccer Community.

Tom Bailey, Maryland Soccer Legends member shares a memory of Greg Watson: After being elected secretary of the Old Timers in 1993, I proposed the establishment of a Soccer Hall of Fame display. Mike Woodard, arranged for its installation in the lobby of the Du Burns Arena. We conducted a fundraiser to offset expenses and set about to design the cabinetry. Somehow, Greg Watson came forward with a proposal to construct the cabinets; I worked with the Larry Beck Company to design the nameplates. Greg did the carpentry, delivered the cabinet material to the arena and assembled it on a Saturday morning. It was completed in a matter of hours. Greg did the work on a pro bono basis and saved us a lot of money. We were grateful to him for his craftsmanship.I continued to see Greg over the years especially at the Hall of Fame dinners and regarded him as a good friend and certainly a positive influence on the referee profession in Maryland; he will be missed.
